POLARIZED ELECTRIC DRAINAGE "TOPOL"
Purpose
Polarized resistor electric drainage “Topol” is intended to provide electrochemical protection of underground metal constructions (pipelines, cables, etc.) exposed to stray currents resulting from railway transport.
Features
While replacing the diodes, their volt-ampere characteristics are not needed to be identical.
Drainage current is regulated by changing the number of operating sections.
Principle of operation
Principle of operation is based on supporting of required potential on the protected construction by means of stray current drainage from this construction onto rails of railway transport through diode-resistor sections of drainage.
Operating conditions
Drainage ensures reliable and stable operation under the following climatic conditions:
- the upper value of ambient temperature + 45 °C;
- the lower value of ambient temperature - 45 °C;
- the upper value of relative humidity 98% at + 25 °C;
- atmosphere of I type and II type according to GOST 15150-69.
Drainage is designed to be mounted outdoors (climatic Y modification of distribution category 1 according to GOST 15150-69).

The drainage has protection against atmospheric overvoltages with the use of varistors.
The drainage corresponds to fire safety requirements (GOST 12.1.004-91).
The drainage corresponds to 01 GOST 12.2.007.0-75 in the way of man protection against current injury.
Specified service life – 20 years.
Guaranteed service life – 30 months.
The drainage corresponds to the standards GOST 9.602-89, GOST 25812-83, GOST P 51164-89, technical specifications IZHSK.656361.001TU.
The unit intended for export additionally meets the requirements RD1601.007-88.
Construction
The drainage case has two doors provided with two locks.
The drainage’s level of protection is IP34 according to GOST 14254-96. The cooling is natural air.
Special insect screens are provided in the lower and upper parts of the case.
Special cover is provided to protect the internal part of the rectifier from precipitation. Cover construction ensures trickling condensed moisture down the wall, thus, preventing ingress of water drops onto the current-carrying parts of the rectifier.
The following elements are mounted on the connecting panel:
- diode block,
- panel with amperemeter, shunt, amperemeter’s switch-on button,
- knife switch to switch the drainage on/off.
Each of the drainages EDP-200-Y1 and EDP-350-Y1 has 9 sections. Each section includes connected in series diode and resistor made of Ni-Cr wire.
The construction of the drainage EDP-500-Y1 is analogous to that of the drainages EDP-200-Y1 and EDP-350-Y1, but it has 13 sections.
Enhanced operational reliability is ensured by effective cooling of power diodes placed in the lower part of the case.
The cables supply is carried out from the bottom. The branch pipe compression shall be done with polyurethane foam.
In the lower outer part of the case there are two bolts for connection of the drainage case to the grounding circuit.
Four holes for lifting and transportation are provided in the upper part of the case.
Construction of the drainage provides its installation on a flat ground with fixing by four bolts.
